Various Writings
From time to time, I have had reason to write a paper or article. Sometimes just as a result of personal interest in a topic, sometimes as a part of a course, or sometimes as a way to guide others through a topic. As you will see, some of what you find is rather academic, while others are rather accessible. Everything that is here is copyrighted, but you have my permission to copy it as long as you don't charge anyone for giving it out (heck, you might have to pay people to read some of this stuff!)
Teaming with Lay Leaders to Improve the Apologetic Understanding of the Local Church
This is my doctoral dissertation.
An Argument for the Existence of God
This isn't an argument in the sense of getting upset with anyone! It's one attempt -- and not an original one -- to explain the reasonableness of belief in God.
The Social Trinity
For many evangelicals, the doctrine of the Trinity is considered of utmost importance, but has almost no relevance to how they live their life before God. In this exploration of the Trinity, I try explain the Trinity as a social unity and the powerful ways understanding the Trinity in that way speaks to the way we should live today.
How It All Fits Together
The Bible is not compiled in chronological order making it sometimes difficult to keep track of where different books fit into the larger story line. This little manuscript will tell you where each book fits and should help you keep major people and events straight.
A Good Friday Service
This service was completed in 2011 at BridgePoint. I wish there was a picture of the "Wall of Sin" that served as its backdrop and the red cross that was painted on the wall during communion.
Mathematics & Evolution
This short article draws on the work of those much smarter than I, but provides a short, cogent, and mathematical explanation of why evolution is not supportable based on a current scientific data.
"Dependent Stewardship": A Theological Model for Results Based Living & Leading
Discussing results, particularly those that are measurable, is often considered downright unspiritual in evangelical churches and ministries, but does Scripture take the same position?
The Ethics of War
Christians throughout the ages have disagreed as to whether followers of Christ should ever partake in war and do so on differing Scriptural grounds. This is a short review of some of the biblical issues at hand and my personal conclusions relative to this complex matter.
The Christian & Wealth
Each generation has sins which to the most part it is blind. I think materialism is one of those sins for this generation. But would should be the Christian's proper response to wealth? I offer four vantage points from which to draw a conclusion: 1) justice, 2) mercy, 3) moderation, and 4) joyful generosity.
Leadership & Love
Every once in a while, I come across something I have written in the past that convicts me in the present. This is one of those instances as I seek to wed, rather than separate, love and leadership.
An Exegetical Analysis of 1 Corinthians 11:2-16
Perhaps the most exegetically difficult of all New Testament passages and for more reasons than the fact that it has to do with issue related to men and women in the church.
An Exegetical Analysis of 2 Samuel 11-12
David is a favorite bible character for many, but few deny that a significant turn took place in his life and legacy with the events surrounding Uriah and Bathsheba. This paper takes a good look at this tragic season in the life of David.
An Exegetical Analysis of Jeremiah 7:1-26
God has never been much for religiosity, particular when it covers up injustice, apathy, moral decay. This passage makes his disdain for such abundantly clear.
